Car accident injures several at Tennessee train crossing

There are an immeasurable number of hazards on the roads. One place that may lead to a car accident is at a railroad crossing. While there are many warning systems in place, one Tennessee railroad crossing has been the scene of a car accident more than once in the last few months.

The latest car accident involved a car full of teenagers. Just after 6 p.m., the warning lights were said to working as a train approached the intersection. The train's whistle also sounded as it approached. A car with five teenagers was heading back from a quarry when they went into the path of the train. The train hit the car and the car was moved forward 30 yards and was also flipped on to its side in the process.

All of the teenagers survived the impact. All of them needed medical care for treatment of injuries. Three were able to leave the hospital; however, two of them had injuries that were serious enough to require extended stays in the hospital. One teen's father reported that his son had a bruised lung, bruised ribs and also suffered a bad concussion. There is an ongoing investigation into the incident.

Teenage drivers are statistically more likely to be involved in a car accident than older drivers. The teens injured in this Tennessee car accident may have mounting medical bills or may have to endure ongoing treatment for their injuries. The victims or the parents of the injured teens, if they are minors, may have cause to pursue civil action if negligence against the driver is proven, and this legal action may help those families manage the expenses that they have incurred as a result of the car accident.
