Is your RV equipped with “the worst tire made in history”?

Most automobile accidents are a result of user error. If every driver would know the rules and follow all safety considerations with care, there would be almost no accidents. Therefore you can usually trace an accident back to some mistake or oversight made by one of the drivers involved.

However, some accidents have almost nothing to do with driving technique or paying attention to the roads. Some motor vehicle accidents are caused by malfunctions in the vehicle itself. These types of accidents are particularly tragic when the auto manufacturers know about the problems that cause these accidents and they fail to take action to prevent the production of dangerous automobiles.

The Goodyear G159

According to, the Goodyear G159 is the worst performing tire in history. In fact, the tires were originally created for low-speed local delivery vehicles that would never be traveling more than 65 miles per hour.

Goodyear, the creator of the G159, marketed this tire to manufacturers of recreational vehicles (RVs), knowing that the tires couldn’t handle the speed and pressure that would be placed on them by use on RVs.

The result was predictable.

Goodyear has faced more than 40 lawsuits in the past 20 years from plaintiffs who have been in serious auto accidents as a result of the G159 tires being used on RVs.

Until recently, the tire manufacturer was able to settle these cases in such a way that would keep evidence confidential and avoid a large-scale investigation against the company for using this tire.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be conducting an examination of the G159, an examination sure to bring the company to answer for the many accidents and injuries it has caused.

In the meantime, if you are driving an RV, make sure you are not using Goodyear G159s, because they are not made for RV use and they can’t take the heat.

Also, if you have been hurt as a result of these tires on an RV – whether you were driving the RV or you were hit by the RV – talk with an experienced lawyer. Gold Law Firm in Memphis has a wealth of experience representing injured drivers throughout Tennessee and the surrounding areas.
