Crash fatality statistics in Tennessee

There are many reasons that lead a person to live in a particular state or city. No matter how long you have lived in Tennessee for, you can no doubt easily list off your reasons for living here. The quality of life and warmth of the people often is part of such a list for many. However, even with those things being true, there still exists the reality that some people continue to behave in ways that put others in harm's way for no good reason.

Reckless and negligent drivers have led to too many deaths on the state's roads and highways. In 2016, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration records show that 1,041 people were killed in automobile crashes. That is the highest number of annual vehicular fatalities in the state since 2008. It is a jump by 80 over the number of lives lost in 2015, just one year before.

Alcohol continues to be one of the big contributing factors to a number of car crash deaths. In the five years running from 2012 through 2016, a total of 1,317 people were killed in Tennessee at the hands of drunk drivers. People who find exceeding the speed limit their right took the life of 1,208 people in that same timeframe. Some accidents may well have involved both a drunk and a speeding driver.
