Faulty airbags are a deadly concern

When you have an accident, you rely on the safety precautions built into your vehicle. Seat belts, airbags, and brakes should all help keep you and your loved ones safe on the road. However, faulty safety features could potentially end up causing more injury than the crash alone.

One woman is speaking up about this issue in public videos on social media. Chemicals in her airbag inflator exploded and drastically wounded her eye years ago. She still suffers pain and vision loss from the faulty product. Several other drivers have died from the exploding airbags.

The company that produced the airbag device, Takata, recalled 69 million inflators after learning that the product was deadly. Vehicle manufacturers are struggling to inform drivers of this serious hazard. Top auto brands that featured these inflators at some point include Honda, Ford, Nissan, Chrysler, BMW, Toyota, Subaru and Mitsubishi, among many others.

As a result of these fatal inflators, Takata paid millions of dollars in a class-action settlement. The executives who allowed these airbags face criminal penalties.

Auto recalls are common, but gravely serious. It’s important to stay up to date on defective parts and if your vehicle might contain them. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration created an online tool that can help consumers detect faulty products and safety concerns.

However, consumers often don’t learn about a recall until it’s too late. If you were not aware of a recall and a defective product caused a crash or injury, you should contact a skilled product liability attorney immediately.
