Driving on Thanksgiving can be deadly.

Thanksgiving and the entire holiday season can be a wonderful time for most people. With family, feasting and gift-giving, the holidays are often the best time of the year.

However, the holidays can be extremely dangerous for driving. Among all the holidays, Thanksgiving is the most deadly, according to Forbes magazine. More than any other single day, Thanksgiving results in more fatalities.

Why is Thanksgiving so Dangerous?

Some of the reasons for the high fatality rate on Thanksgiving include:

  • Alcohol: A big part of Thanksgiving feasting for many people is having a few drinks. Be sure to keep an eye out for other people driving under the influence, and definitely do not be one of the drunk drivers out there.
  • Lack of safety belts: For whatever reason, there was a shocking 60% of drivers found not wearing their seatbelts in the findings illustrated in the Forbes article. In 2017, every driver should have a clear understanding of the importance of wearing a seatbelt while driving. Be safe. Wear your seatbelt.
  • Reckless driving: Often around the holidays people are having a good time and just not paying attention to the roads. Also, it is common for people to be late for parties or family gatherings so they speed to make up time. This reckless driving only increases the dangers on the roads. It is better to be late than to risk a serious accident, so be careful out there.

Although the holidays are a great time for family get-togethers, it is also the most dangerous time to be on the roads. Be careful out there and make sure you act fast if you have been in an accident. Seek medical attention right away and talk with a lawyer as soon as possible.
