Drunk driving can lead to fines, jail time

Drunk drivers are a fact of life. People in this condition may think they are fine when actually they are an accident waiting to happen. A drunk driver can leave you seriously injured, with months if not years of rehabilitation.

What are you to do after the accident? Who do you talk to about recompense for lost wages and medical bills that are out of this world expensive?

After you have seen a medical professional, the next person you need to talk to is an attorney who can advise you of your options.

Drunk driving is an offense that can lead to large fines and jail time. This may give you a sense of justice if you were injured by that person. However, you may need more than this.

The police only need to suspect that a driver was driving while intoxicated in order to make the person take field sobriety tests and a breathalyzer at the scene of the accident. This is an important step in ensuring that the records indicate that the driver who caused the accident was at fault because they were driving drunk.

The officers who respond to the accident have the right to as a driver to perform a breath test to see what their blood alcohol content, or BAC, is. If it is .08 or higher, they can be charged with driving under the influence and will be transported to jail.

If you have been injured in an accident that was the fault of a drunk driver, you may need to follow through with a talk to an attorney who can help -- not only the insurance company but also with any court action that may take place.
