Even the most responsible drivers aren't immune to car accidents

Driving is a privilege and should be taken seriously. Safe drivers know and abide traffic laws and are vigilgant when it comes to taking proactive measures to avoid being involved in a car accident. Unfortunately, even the most responsible driver can fall victim to the actions of a less responsible driver.

For example, a driver who had a green light and was traveling through an intersection may be broadsided by another driver who ran a red light. In another example, a driver traveling on a freeway may reduce his or her speed to account for slowed traffic ahead when a trailing driver slams into the back of his or her vehicle.

No matter how safe or responsible a driver an individual considers himself or herself to be, it's impossible to control the actions and behaviors of other drivers. In cases where an individual suffers injuries as a result of a negligent driver's actions, a personal injury lawsuit may be an appropriate means to recovering compensation.

When filing a personal injury lawsuit, an individual may choose to seek compensation related to some of the following pains and losses.

  • Physical injuries
  • Past and future medical expenses related to the treatment of car accident-related injuries
  • Lost wages and future loss of income
  • Disability
  • Disfigurement
  • Pain and suffering
  • Loss of companionship or consortium of a loved one or spouse

An attorney who handles personal injury matters can answer questions and provide advice related to the recovery of compensation. An attorney will also advocate on an individual's behalf and present compelling evidence related to one's injuries and losses in the event a personal injury lawsuit results in a trial.
