Truck accident in Tennessee injures many, takes 3 lives

Whenever cars and trucks share the road, there may be the need for extra vigilance for everyone on the roadway. A truck accident involving automobiles can be particularly devastating given the size and weight of big rigs, especially when they are loaded with cargo. A recent truck accident in Tennessee led to a number of injuries and took the lives of three individuals as well.

The accident occurred on a Friday afternoon. A Toyota Tacoma was traveling along Interstate 40, and a tractor-trailer tried to pass the vehicle. The Tacoma hit the truck with its rear side as it attempted to switch lanes. The truck then flipped on the side of the road.

The tractor-trailer crossed the median and struck a car. Three people in the automobile died as a result of the collision. A total of six people were injured. The injured included two children, ages six and seven -- one in the tractor-trailer and one in the Tacoma. Police indicated said charges were pending, although there was no clear word as to who exactly would be charged in the crash.

When a truck accident results in injuries or worse, those affected by the accident may have legal cause to pursue damages in a Tennessee civil court. A successful civil complaint could help victims (including the surviving families of any deceased victims) contend with the costs of being involved in a truck accident. Some of the damages that are potentially recoverable in a successfully presented claim include lost wages, medical bills, and funeral costs -- among others recognized under our personal injury and wrongful death laws.
