Tennessee hit-and-run car accident takes life of man

Walking on the sidewalk is typically a safe way to travel around any town or city. However, there are times that simply being on the sidewalk can lead to injury or worse. A recent hit-and-run car accident in Tennessee took the life of a man who was just walking on the sidewalk.

The 59-year-old man was walking along when a 21-year-old woman reportedly ran off the road and onto that sidewalk, subsequently hitting the man with the car. After he was hit, the car dragged him through a yard and then back into the street. The driver allegedly left the scene without calling for any kind of help for the man.

The victim was declared dead at the scene of the crash. The woman was later found, although no details are given as to where or how long after the accident. She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and also vehicular homicide.

Whenever someone is the innocent victim of a hit-and-run accident, there are legal options for victims, as well as the families who are left behind if that victim does not survive the hit-and-run car accident. The family of the man who died recently in Tennessee may be able to pursue a civil claim of wrongful death against the driver, which would be in addition to the criminal charges she is facing. If successful, a civil claim may lead to damages that could help the family contend with expenses related to the accident, such as funeral costs or medical bills.
