Victims of Car Wreck denied money from OWN insurance company

A little over a year ago, a man, a woman and their child came to my office for a consultation about their car wreck. All three were injured. The passenger, a male, was severely injured. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he incurred about $15,000.00 in bills. When we met, they were interested in hiring me to obtain "as much money as possible" from the other driver's insurance company. After searching, it was discovered that the other driver did not have any insurance. Luckily, the driver had full coverage insurance with a VERY large insurance company that does a LOT of advertising on television. I explained to them that we would continue the claim as we would against any insurance company. Later that week, they called me back and said that they did not want me to represent them because "they were going to get treated fairly" by their own insurance. She trusted this big insurance company because she had paid them premiums for MANY years and just "knew" that they would take care of her. About a year later, she did what I would have done, gathered up the medical bills and records and sent them to this insurance company. One year after the accident, they had still not settled the case. A year and a day after the accident, she was told by this large insurance company that "they would be denying the claim" because legally they did not have to pay it. She missed her statute of limitation. She called me and asked if there was anything I could do. I told her it was too late. She should have stayed with me and would have been paid. If you think you will be treated fairly by your insurance company in an uninsured motorist claim, be wary of what happened to these three accident victims. Not only are they accident victims, they are now insurance company victims.
