Tennessee student killed in hit and run car wreck

Anytime someone is involved in a car accident, the aftermath can be upsetting for family members who are left behind. However, when a hit and run car wreck turns deadly, it can be particularly devastating for the surviving family members when they don't yet have the answers they need. For one Tennessee family, dealing with the aftermath of a hit and run accident has been difficult.

The 19-year-old victim was in a car operated by her 24-year-old boyfriend. They were backing out of a driveway when the vehicle was hit. The boyfriend and a juvenile in the car were injured, while the 19-year-old college student was killed.

The vehicle that hit them was a stolen SUV and was described as a 2008 Ford Explorer. The vehicle fled the scene after the impact, and police are actively seeking the party or parties deemed responsible. They are tracking down leads but say there have been no arrests. The woman killed was studying psychology at Austin Peay State University and had previously worked at a restaurant where she was well liked.

The criminal consequences for a deadly hit and run car wreck can be severe in Tennessee. Regardless of any criminal side of this accident case, the family of the victim may have cause to file a civil suit against the driver once he or she is apprehended by police. A successful wrongful death civil suit may garner monetary damages that may help the family deal with any financial strain the car wreck may have caused.
