Dog bites can result from owner negligence in Tennessee

A dog attack can be terrifying. Unfortunately, some people are negligent when it comes to pet ownership. This negligence can lead to an animal attack resulting in dog bites. Tennessee residents may be interested to learn that two Bristol Virginia residents were arrested following a vicious dog attack that purportedly injured a woman and her daughter.

A 37-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were charged with violating state laws that govern the control of dangerous dogs. Purportedly, the charges come on the heels of a dog attack against a 36-year-old woman and her six-year-old daughter. The pit bull, whose name is "Hitler," walked with the woman and her daughter to a local park. There, he attacked the little girl while she was on a swing set.

The little girl suffered puncture wounds to her leg before her mother could get the dog off of her. As the dog turned on the mother, the little girl ran for help. The attacks did not stop until another person began striking the dog with an umbrella. Purportedly, the dog had been placed in the custody of the 37-year-old man and the 28-year-old woman after having bitten two children in Sullivan County Tennessee a mere three weeks prior to the most recent attack. At that time, the dog was quarantined because it had not been vaccinated prior to the attack; purportedly, the dog had only been released from the shelter three days before the most recent attack.

Police charged the couple in the case because they allowed the little girl and her mother to take the dog for a walk, but failed to inform them of the dog's attack history. This couple's alleged negligence could have cost a little girl her life. In addition to the criminal charges the couple faces, it is possible that the victims of the dog bites will seek monetary compensation for medical bills and pain and suffering.
