Truck drivers need to make sure their cargo is secure.

One of the most common causes of truck accidents is improperly secured loads. Because the cargo isn't visible from the outside, people don't really think about the impact that an unsecured load can have on a moving truck. But shifting loads can send a truck off course, resulting in serious accidents.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) understands the severity of the danger, too. According a recent article in Overdrive.com, the CVSA will be checking 18-wheelers for proper load security this year.

The CVSA conducts its International Roadcheck inspection blitz every year, focusing on a different safety concern each year. In the 2017 annual inspection, the organization will be focusing on securely loaded cargo.

According to the article, the CVSA created a flyer for drivers and trucking companies to fully understand the requirements and regulations for properly securing cargo. "Violations related to cargo securement include failure to prevent shifting/loss of cargo, failure to secure truck equipment, damaged tie-downs, insufficient tie-downs and loose tie-downs."

Hopefully this type of official attention will reduce instances of improperly secured loads and the serious truck accidents that result, making the roads safer for everyone. In the meantime, if you or someone you love has been involved in a truck accident, talk with an experienced attorney as soon as possible to get the best compensation award possible.
