In the blink of an eye, a family is decimated

A three-vehicle truck-SUV crash on Route 41-A in Clarksville Wednesday illustrates how quickly life can get away with us.

The crash occurred on Ashland City Road, when the truck piled into the SUV. In all, four people died on the scene. Three of them, riding in the SUV, were family members remembered as bright, talented persons -- a mother, her son, and the son's half brother.

A mother and two sons

The mother was Teresa King, a teacher who lived in Pleasant View. She was a language arts teacher at Houston County Middle School, and was editor at the Ashland City Times. She is also remembered as a contributor to the The Stewart-Houston Times.

The sons were Devin Fillingham, a salesman for Gary Matthews Chrysler in Clarksville, and his half-brother Sean Settle, of Erin.

The driver of the truck was Kristopher McCauley of Clarksville. He died instantly. A passenger, Bruce McGovern, suffered minor injuries to one arm.

The crash location is one where numerous serious accidents have occurred over the years. Nearby residents had met at a local church to address the unacceptable danger of that stretch of road. Their intention was to press for a traffic light at the intersection. This grisly accident only highlights the need for a light.

At the Gold Law Firm, we file lawsuits when serious car and other injuries occur, including wrongful death claims. But it is distressing to us when entire families are extinguished because one party is careless, or the road they are driving on isn't safe for travel.

We extend sincere sympathies to surviving family members.
