2 drivers face charges after fatal crash

A tragic accident in Memphis, Tennessee, claimed the life of a 22-year-old passenger. The wreck occurred on Feb. 19 at the intersection of Coleman Road and Austin Peay.

A Buick was trying to make a turn onto Coleman when it was struck by a Chevrolet traveling on Austin Peay. The driver of the Buick, a 29-year-old man, was taken to a medical facility, but according to reports, his condition was not critical.

The Chevrolet driver, a 26-year-old man, told police that he didn't stop for a red light. After running the light, he said he hit the Buick. A passenger in the Buick was in very critical condition after the accident. The injured party later died at a local hospital.

The accident resulted in multiple charges for the two drivers. The driver of the Chevrolet is facing charges for state registration, disregarding a red light and reckless vehicular homicide. The driver of the Buick is facing charges for public intoxication, DUI, state registration, financial responsibility, and driving while license suspended/revoked/canceled.

The loss of a loved one can bring a family such sorrow, especially when it happens so unexpectedly -- and needlessly. You may be focused on grieving and not realize how much your loved one's loss of income will affect your family's finances. You can seek compensation from the at-fault party for your loved one's final expenses, pain and suffering, medical expenses and lost income. An attorney can help you hold the at-fault party liable for taking your loved one's life. Even though he or she may face criminal charges, a civil case for compensation is separate.
