Drunk driving accidents kill 27 people each day

Even with the amount of press that they get, many people still do not know just how common drunk driving accidents really are or how dangerous they can be. Reports indicate that 27 people are killed in DUI accidents every single day. This factors out to one death every 53 minutes.

While those statistics are for the United States as a whole, they still shed light on how common these accidents are in Tennessee. Remember, while there are 27 deaths each day, there are far more accidents in which everyone survives, even though they may have significant injuries.

These injuries in DUI accidents are, as you may expect, far more common than deaths. Statistics show that such injuries happen every minute and a half -- or every 90 seconds. With 86,400 seconds in a day, that means there are roughly 960 injuries cases every 24 hours. That factors out to more than 350,000 every year.

The big reason for this, of course, is how often people are willing to drive while under the influence. Though they know it is illegal, it has been reported that most drunk drivers will only get pulled over -- or caught after an accident -- after they have driven drunk around 80 times.

Seeing as how this is the average, it stands to reason that there are people who drive after drinking hundreds of times without getting caught. Each person who decides to do this just creates the potential for another accident.

Have you been hurt in an accident by a drunk driver? If you have, you may want to look into your rights to financial compensation.
