Driver fatigue can lead to serious injuries

As noted on our Driver Fatigue webpage, fatigue is a contributing factor in approximately half of all trucking accidents in the United States. Taking this one step further, studies have proven that fatigued driving is every bit as dangerous as drunk driving.

Even if you are completely alert, you never know how others around you are feeling. This holds true among truck drivers, as well as those behind the wheel of passenger vehicles. If a person is fatigued, he or she may begin to make poor decisions. Not to mention the fact that this could lead to him or her falling asleep.

There are laws in place to ensure that truck drivers only stay on the road for so many consecutive hours at a time. However, these laws are not always followed. There will always be truckers who break the law, hoping they can make better time.

If a person is injured or killed in an accident caused by trucker fatigue, he or she may be in a position to recover compensation for medical bills, lost wages, physical therapy, pain and suffering, long term care and a variety of other hardships.

When you share the road with other drivers, there is no way to guarantee your safety. There is always the chance that another person could fall asleep at the wheel or make a poor decision. If this happens, you could be involved in an accident.
