Tennessee truck accident takes a life on highway

Anytime there are trucks and cars traveling together on our roadways, there is the potential for an accident. Typically, when there is a truck accident on the highway, the injuries and damages can be great simply due to the sheer size and weight of tractor-trailers. A Tennessee truck accident recently highlighted just how damaging a collision between a car and a truck can actually be.

The accident occurred on Interstate 81. A car was headed south when it made contact with the tractor-trailer. This led to the car being pinned between the truck and a concrete barrier near an overpass.

According to witnesses, first responders removed an elderly couple from the car. The cab of the truck was described as ripped open. The driver's seat of the truck was in the road, along with a great amount of debris. One witness said there was a body in the road, although authorities did not identify who died in the crash or even the medical conditions of those who survived. It was reported that one person was ejected in the crash, and that person was then hit by another vehicle.

Investigators closed the Tennessee highway for some time as the truck accident scene was reconstructed. Once authorities determine the cause of the truck accident, there may be financial claims to pursue in civil court. If the evidence suggests that the truck driver was negligent or there proves to be a mechanical issue with the truck, civil claims on behalf of the couple in the car may be appropriate against the trucker as well as the trucker's employer. When damages are awarded in a civil case, those funds could help with medical bills, funeral costs and other financial losses related to the tragedy.
