3-vehicle car wreck leads to charges in Tennessee

Early morning traffic on a highway can lead to any number of accident scenarios. However, people may feel safer from a DUI car wreck in the morning compared to being on the road at night. For one group of drivers and passengers, being on a Tennessee highway in the morning was not enough to safeguard them from becoming ensnared in a serious car wreck.

The accident involved three cars and a 19-year-old driver is now facing DUI charges for his part in the incident. The incident occurred as a minivan that was carrying a group of mentally disabled passengers was in the middle of trying to make a lift turn. The 19-year-old driver came along and collided with the passenger side of the van.

Several people suffered injuries from the collision. Two passengers in the van were transported for medical attention for the injuries they suffered. The 19-year-old was charged with driving under the influence and also with underage consumption. Moments before the crash, another driver had called 911 to report the car for driving too fast and swerving.

While the criminal consequences he may face are yet to be determined, the injuries to the passengers in the van could have long lasting effects. Those who were injured may require long term medical care for their injuries. The injured parties may be able to pursue a civil suit in a Tennessee civil court. A successful suit may help them garner monetary damages that could help them deal with any financial ramifications from the car wreck they were in.
